OTHER HIGH-IMPACT CAMPAIGNS
THE WINNER'S CIRCLE
BEST IN SHOW – 2014: REP. RYAN ZINKE
The first Navy Seal ever elected to Congress, Ryan Zinke is a strong conservative voice for Montana. The 23-year military veteran and former commander with SEAL Team Six ran a small business and served in the Montana State Senate before coming to Washington, where he applies conservative principles to national concerns on a daily basis.
BEST IN CLASS – 2014: REP. TOM EMMER
Tom Emmer represents Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District, the seat recently vacated by Michelle Bachmann. Tom brings a wealth of small business management experience and policy experience (he served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2004 to 2010 and narrowly lost a 2010 race for governor). We’re proud to have Congressman Emmer carrying on the conservative tradition of Minnesota’s 6th District in Washington, D.C.
BEST SPRINT TO THE FINISH – 2014: SEN. BEN SASSE
Ben Sasse, who signed with ForthRight Strategy late in his election cycle, was the conservative choice in a competitive Nebraska Republican Senate Primary in 2014, and we’re thrilled we were able to help propel him to victory. Ben is committed to reforming entitlements, reigning in excessive federal spending, modernizing national security, and restoring national optimism.
BEST FOR THE SECOND TIME AROUND – FORMER REP. ALLEN WEST
Allen West, a ForthRight Strategy all-star from 2010, defeated incumbent Democrat Ron Klein in Florida’s 22nd Congressional District. We’re proud to say we delivered for Congressman West, a 22-year U.S. Army veteran who served in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom – and went on to serve as a champion of conservative values in Washington, D.C. He is now a Fox News contributor and CEO of the National Center for Policy Analysis in Dallas, TX.
SOUTH DAKOTA: DR. ANNETTE BOSWORTH FOR U.S. SENATE 2014
As ObamaCare threatened to destroy our entire healthcare system, our immigration policy in a mess, and our children’s futures being suffocated by unbearable debt, ForthRight was looking for a solid conservative to fill the South Dakota U.S. Senate seat Democrat Tim Johnson had held for the past 18 years.
Enter Dr. Annette Bosworth. As a medical doctor with years of experience, she knows what an oppressive big government looks like up close. And it isn’t pretty. Unaccountable bureaucrats with connections to the pro-abortion lobby did everything they could to try and end her medical practice.
Dr. Bosworth stood up to them. She decided to fight back by declaring her candidacy for the U.S. Senate. But, being a newcomer to politics, and not belonging to the GOP “establishment,” Dr. Bosworth had no fundraising network and no way to get her message out. That’s where ForthRight came in.
In 210 days, ForthRight’s efforts on behalf of Dr. Bosworth grossed $2,031,004, and sent her $500,000 in spendable cash for campaign activities. ForthRight exists to help principled conservative candidates like Dr. Annette Bosworth make their voices heard.
FORTHRIGHT STRATEGY HALL OF FAME: FORMER REP. GEOFF DAVIS
Before entering Congress, Geoff Davis served as a U.S. Army Ranger in the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade. He ran for an open seat in Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District against actor George Clooney’s father, Nick. Davis’ victory meant a pick-up for the House Republican delegation in Washington, D.C. In Congress, Geoff was a faithful conservative leader for Kentucky from 2005-2012. ForthRight is proud to have been a part of Rep. Davis’ distinguished and principled service to America.
NEW JERSEY: STEVE LONEGAN FOR U.S. SENATE 2013
Before the special election contest for the open New Jersey U.S. Senate seat had begun in earnest, many pundits and members of the political establishment said liberal Newark Mayor Cory Booker had all but won.
ForthRight thought otherwise. We proudly threw our support behind conservative, self-made businessman Steve Lonegan.
In 110 days, ForthRight geared up for Lonegan and grossed $1,135,554, giving his campaign $390,000 in spendable cash for campaign activities in the crucial final weeks.
NEVADA: SHARRON ANGLE FOR U.S. SENATE 2010
Polling in the low single digits, former Nevada Assemblywoman Sharron Angle couldn’t even get a hearing from the Republican fundraising establishment as she prepared to face old guard favorite Sue Lowden in the 2010 Nevada U.S. Senate primary to face Majority Leader Harry Reid in November.
ForthRight saw Sharron Angle differently because she was a pro-life, movement conservative with a compelling story and potential for national fundraising and had the heart, energy and courage to take on the Establishment both on the Left and Right.
FACT: With direct mail funds fueling the campaign, Sharron defeated Lowden in the primary by almost 25,000 votes — 40.1 percent to 26.1 percent — with a host of other challengers following behind.
FACT: Winning the endorsement of Nevada’s largest newspaper, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Sharron Angle and ForthRight stunned the political world by raising $16 million in the third quarter of 2010, with 94 percent coming from donations of $100 or less. The campaign total of $27,797,915 topped an effort that many believed would succeed until Reid pulled out a victory during the last days of a hard fought campaign. Nonetheless, Angle outraised Reid by almost $8 million. Moreover, the Democrat party was forced to spend millions of extra dollars in Nevada — money they had slated for many other races around the country.
PENNSYLVANIA: WILLIAM RUSSELL FOR CONGRESS 2008
Running against 17-term liberal incumbent, the late John Murtha, in Pennsylvania’s 12th congressional district, William Russell was getting no help from a Republican establishment that didn’t believe he could raise enough money to be viable against the entrenched Democrat incumbent.
But ForthRight didn’t see it that way. Lt Col. Russell’s honorable military service gave the campaign national appeal. He was a pro-life movement Conservative. And he was determined to go after Murtha, a legendary tax and spender with backdoor ties to lobbyists up and down K-Street, with all the energy he possessed.
FACT: The direct mail fundraising campaign as a whole raised $3.25 million. As the chart shows, 34 percent of the gross went to the U.S. Postal Service. The second largest amount, 26 percent, went directly to the campaign — an impressive $841,263. That amount of net is even more remarkable considering the direct mail program did not start until December 2007 — months after the typical spring start time.
FACT: Easier past campaigns had allowed Rep. Murtha to contribute about $1 million a cycle to other liberal candidates. While William Russell did not defeat Murtha, his strong challenge and cash on hand forced the incumbent to withhold contributions from other candidates, and ask the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for an additional $500,000. That money had to be withheld from other Democrats in close races against Conservatives causing a powerful national ripple effect.
FACT: The net effect — a $1.5 million swing away from other liberal candidates — helped save many other conservatives who were spared attacks.
GEORGIA: DEBORAH HONEYCUTT FOR CONGRESS 2008
A distinguished medical doctor and former president of the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Honeycutt would have been the first Black Republican woman ever elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
FACT: While she lost her 2008 race for Congress, Dr. Honeycutt’s fundraising story is one for the record books. Deborah Honeycutt’s ForthRight Strategy direct mail fundraising campaign raised $5.13 million, making her the number one non-self-funding challenger of the 2008 cycle.
FACT: As the chart shows, 33 percent of the gross went to the U.S. Postal Service. The second largest amount, $1,344,192, went directly to the campaign.
CONSERVATIVE NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS
Our work on behalf of nonprofit groups has been substantial and impactful. We represent conservative-leaning nonprofit advocacy groups, charities and political action committees, and have helped these important voices in the movement get the fuel they need to continue contributing to the American political process. They all have a true passion for the things in which we believe.
SOUTHEASTERN LEGAL FOUNDATION
Founded in 1976, Southeastern Legal Foundation is celebrating its 39th year as a national constitutional public interest law firm and policy center advocating limited government, individual economic freedom and the free enterprise system in the courts of law and public opinion.
Their mission is to engage in litigation and public policy advocacy in support of these principles. They have argued cases all the way to the Supreme Court and recently defeated President Barack Obama’s administration in SLF v EPA (case number: 12:1268). Southeastern Legal Foundation has been a client and a partner of ForthRight for more than a decade. As conservatives, we are grateful for all the work they do to keep America free and limit government’s power. Their involvement makes a real difference.
MUTTS WITH A MISSION
Created in 2008, Mutts with a Mission came about to train unwanted dogs from shelters and rescues and turn them into highly skilled service dogs - literally, lifesaving Heroes! Brooke Corson, who has a passion for dogs and helping our veterans sets herself apart from other types of organizations in that all the dogs are trained under the guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Mutts with a Mission provides training for veterans who served on active duty and have a disability related to their efforts in their service to our country. The dog is paired with the veteran, and then the new team begins a training program that takes between 18 months, to two full years. One current veteran in training paid this wonderful group the highest compliment when he remarked, “Mutts With A Mission not only changed my life, they may have very well saved it altogether!”
Forthright Strategy is so very honored to be part of the Mutts team and in a large part because of our efforts, they have been able to grow by “leaps and bounds.” We thank our veterans for their service to our country!
60 PLUS ASSOCIATION
Founded in 1992, the 60 Plus Association is a non-partisan seniors advocacy group. 60 Plus is often viewed as the conservative alternative to the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). Unlike other seniors advocacy groups, 60 Plus understands that the problems seniors face are best solved not through an ever-growing bureaucratic state, but through solutions that emphasize free enterprise, limited government, and lower taxes. Ending the death tax and saving Social Security for the young is its top priority.
ForthRight Strategy is honored to be part of the 60 Plus Association team, and we look forward to working with them for many years to come. Special thanks to Jim, Amy, Matt, Mary and Laura for having such faith in our abilities!
HeroBox is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports deployed, injured, aging and homeless veterans. Its mission is to ensure that every American hero receives the physical and moral support they deserve.
HeroBox was founded when Ryan Housley learned during his brother’s deployment that many service members were not receiving any support from home. Ryan worked with his brother to develop a unique web platform that connects Americans stateside with our deployed warriors. The platform allows the service members to specifically request items that Americans back home can send to them. Herobox’s work has been vital to lifting the morale of tens of thousands of service members.
In 2013, HeroBox expanded its programs to include injured, aging and homeless veterans. HeroBox has sent over 100,000 HeroBox care packages to deployed service members and has volunteers in all 50 states. ForthRight Strategy is so privileged to be part of this essential and truly amazing organization. God Bless our troops and all that they do for keeping America safe and free.
Semper K-9 was started in 2008 by a Marine Veteran, Chris Baity and his wife Amanda. Chris had served three tours of duty in Iraq training combat dogs to detect and locate weapons and explosives. After retiring from the military the Baity’s wanted to combine their love of dogs with helping veterans coming back with the scars of war. They get their dogs from shelters and train them to be service dogs, matching them with veterans suffering from mental or physical disabilities.
Even, Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs, endorsed their efforts and has personally committed to helping this amazing group. Chris understands the power of a dog’s love and loyalty and so do we here at ForthRight Strategy and we are so honored to be on the Semper K-9 Team!
